Published on October 18, 2007 By Trudygolightly In Misc

Percentage of women who married one time and are still married = 40%

Percentage of men who married once and are still married =43%

Percentage of men who've been divorced at least one time who're currently married =52%

44 % is the percentage of women who've been divorced at least one time and are currently remmarried.

8 is the average lenght,  in years,  of a first marriage that ends in divorce.  I know,  that's how long my first marriage lasted!

3.5 is the average number of years between a divorce and a second marriage.  Not for me,  I was divorced in ( year it was finalized)  and remarried in 76.

3 is the percentage of people who've married three or more times.  NOT for me,  two was enough!

A Whopping 79% is the percentage of women that married in the late 1950's and were still married 15 years later.

A mere 57 % is the percentage of women that married in the late 1980's and were still married 15 years later.

And people bitch about gay marriage ruining the integrity of marriage?  Over half the people that get married can't even keep it together, lots of integrity there.

That was my homerun line in the '06 campaign, zoologist. I was asked if I thought gay marriage destroyed the sanctity of marriage, and I replied that statistics on divorce indicated heterosexuals were doing a good enough job on their own of destroying the sanctity of marriage.

It drew some hearty laughs.

It's hard to argue against gay marriage when there's nothing any better about heterosexual marriage. Even in the ones that are still married, I bet there's a high level of discontent where the marriage is only kept together due to a legalistic "We can't get divorced" ideal, but without the "We have to work at this" mentality that was meant to go with it. If half are divorced, I'd guess that three-quarters shouldn't have married in the first place.

Exactly Jythier,  it's strange this animal called marriage....I believe that most go into it with hopes, dreams,  plans,  and probably do the best they know how to do...and usually as people grow and change,  that doesn't always ( if ever) happen to both at the same time and same speed.  People also bring into marriage all their baggage,  their family of origin issues,  their hurts,  unrealistic expectations,  it takes a lot of maturity to pull off marriage,  especially in this day and age where there's so much stress and life moves so fast.

There,  I'll get down from my soap box now....
