the latest new "thing" for me

My son and I have been playing "Pool" and another game that's like Scrabble,  called "Literati" I think.  We play them online and this concept is totally new to me!

Being tech challenged I lost almost every single game until just this week,  then one night,  shortly after my blog about inmates and their meals,  somehow I managed to win 7 or 8 games in a row!  Gosh dang it,  he was "letting me win"!

Don't ya just hate it when someone "lets you win"??  THEN he tells me that "no,  you really won,  I was just trying to do some fancy shots".   Ya right.....  LOL

So last night it happened again....I think this is how he goes about boosting me up   What a neat son.

Sooooo,   today we went out for breakfast,  he came up to visit and suggested we go get a hot meal,  instead of eating at home today.   Then we went out to Wal-Mart,  where he tried to buy a camera and the one he wanted was no where to be found.  The employee looked everywhere they keep their stock,  in their "cage" or bin,  the backrooms where stuff is locked up,  and even though the machine said there was 5 in stock,  they couldn't be found.

Then he tried to get some black jeans,   and they were out of his size,  sooooooooo he settled on some faded or light blue jeans and some tee shirts,  and the usual guy stuff... that added to the new shoes he got last month,  he's looking pretty chipper.

My garden is all done now,   even though there was still blooming and growing green beans,  the manager here wanted us gardners to dig it all up as there'll be a guy coming in with manure to cover the ground.  I picked the remaining green beans that were ripe,  the last ripe tomato,  and walked away feeling torn between happy to have had a garden,  to plant seeds,  weed the garden,  see the first vegies popping up through the soil,  and feeling sad that the growing season is over....that first time of seeing the carrots' green tops,  the green beans with their blooms,  the tomato plant shooting up growing so fast,  and then the first of the radishes and how big they got,  the red bulbs pushing up like a flower in spring...

It felt so good to carry it into the building and hand them out,  the big smiles for something so simple as a tomato  and a baggy full of plump green beans...a lot of excitement....I think that's why my dad loved farming when he was still a young man...it gives a sense of satisfaction....I never felt that before,  excitement for having grown something.  AND it's humbling too.....it gives a feeling of being close to the earth and to God.  I'm all pumped up about next spring,  am happily anticipating the next growing season and proud to have learned a few things about growing vegetables too.

I haven't played anything on Yahoo games yet, but I have on MSN games. In fact, gamedesire.com is my fav place to hang out! I love Mahjong!

I think it's great your son lets you win!

It's nice to see things that you plant grow. My little window garden of plants are doing so well now!

Just remember, out of the Sh-- comes great vegetables!  Gardens are sometimes a great metaphor for life.  If the garden was there all year round (providing the good stuff), eventually it would deplete the soil and no more good stuff would come from it.

I just wish my wife would plant stuff that is native to this area, so I would not have to move them into our "greenhouse" (garage) over the winter.

What have you got growing Serenity?  I've never tried growing herbs and such.

Mahjong in one of my older sisters' favorite games,  I haven't tried it yet cause it looks soooo hard!

Ya my son is good to me   he still claims he was just trying to practice new shots...uhuh

What is native to your area?  I planted the vegies I love,  and did it without even knowing where to start!  NOW I understand the mistakes i made...

Ya those "metaphors" are something else....      and yes the soil would become depleted,  just like a person can only give soooo much to others and then becomes tired....yep.   That's life,  for sure.

thanks Doc
