Sighs...I doubt I could do much out there anymore, not steady on my feet enough, and the river rocks are slippery devils, but if you're feeling both fit and adventurous some day perhaps you can give it a try if you haven't before. It's just so...FUN.

Sounds like you had a nice outing, trudy, even if you didn't bring home a fat perch for dinner. (the rice crispies bar doesn't sound too bad, either. i hope the fish enjoyed it, lol.)

If the weather cools off a bit, we're going to drive up into the mountains tomorrow and really give our new (-ish) car a good spin. Simon followed my dad down here in the Cougar four years ago on the tail of hurricane Ivan, and never even caught a glimpse of the Appalachians they drove through 'cus it was raining too hard to see past the windshield, and I've had a week's worth of extremely poor health, so maybe a huge dose of sunshine and fresh air will do me some good as well.

They are salt water fish, and have the best taste!

I would really like to go after some walleyes. But other than some nice bass, and great Cats, not much in the fresh water around here. At least that I have heard.

If you ever get over to the coast, make sure you go out on a charter (they are not too expensive). The captains make a living on making sure their customers catch fish! Oh I know, I had a couple dogs from the age of 4 till I was 16 or so. One was a blue healer, the other was part australian shepard, part red healer (possibly ding, or so we were told by those who owned the mother). The latter was so very affectionate. I'd go to sleep and she'd come and snuggle next to me. She rocked, and boy did she live for a while. I think she was like 17 or 18 when she died.

Thank you. After reading about some of the conditions dharma has witnessed lately, as well as a really insightful article by Tova about nursing homes, plus having my mum-in-law currently dependent on an 'assisted living' facility, I tend to be pretty sympathetic to those stuck in places like these, especially those without family or friends who visit or get them out of there for a while on a regular basis.

Here's where I disagree with your asessment of me and "how I am" in the world. You don't see the compassion, the things I've done for them, nor know of it.


Well of course I haven't seen it, nor heard of the things you've done for them, because you didn't include any of that in the article! I can only form commentary on what you've chosen to share, right?

Their gossip initially isn't malicious, until they start commenting on the possibilities, and I've heard it first-hand, ( while waiting in the lobby) and it's truly mean-spirited when they get going. One lady here just lost her husband of many years, and when the widow came in from shopping one day, shortly after the funeral, these gossip-mongers ripped her a new one, all based on her disheveled appearance. They thought nothing of berating her while she was in the same room, all the while openly laughing at her, truly mean women they are.


I agree, that's truly farked up. Haha, I also know that just because a person is old and frail, that doesn't automatically make them saintly, or confer some sort of instant forgiveness for atrocious behavior, (unless they have alzheimers or something.) A young asshole grows into an old assholes, and old assholes can be the biggest assholes around sometimes, look at all the years they've had to practice and perfect their assholiness!

I do hope you reached out to the woman being humiliated in some way. Again, though, I can only comment on the story as you presented it, so I have no way of knowing if you have any relationship at all with this victim.

To have a "little fun with it" seems innocent on the surface, however these "crumblies" are now using the internet to contact the owners, making complaints about the management, dog owners here, everything under the sun, whether they're accurate in their judgement or not.


Hopefully the management has enough experience to handle their type, as I'd imagine they're common as dirt, always meddling, always complaining, always making other people's business their own.

Compassion whip? yep, for those that are kind hearted, good to others, and for those mean ones? well I feel sorry for them, that their lives are so shallow that they have to be mean.


I wasn't trying to imply that you were coldhearted or anything, trudy, but you gotta admit you hadn't told the whole story here. The way you described it made it sound relatively harmless, almost like teasing...'trudy's got a boyfriend, oh my!' sort of thing.
