It was a very good day, a very good day for small town women..

It was a very good day for small town women that lived upstairs....with curls now in their hair....without any cares...

Yep a good day indeed.  I was blessed with the gift of yet another day to do with as I see fit.  I greeted the morning with a smile and a Bluejay sang a song for me while he was perched on the telephone pole.

I had the first perm in my hair today that I've had since 1993,  a long time baby,  to go with straight hair!  Oh my it looks better.

My son and me went to A & W for a burger and fries,  they're about the same price as Mickey Duck's and much much better!  It's cleaner there,  more room it seems like, a fireplace,  and such great burgers!

We came back to my place and went upstairs to the community room where there's a pool table and he beat me,  easily!  I started the game with gusto,  sinking 5 balls!  However.....his skill won the game.

Tonight was a simple supper of mashed potatoes and chicken breast.  Watched one of my favorite shows,  Survivor,  and will crash early probably.

The hairdresser, that comes here once a week,  and I got to talking and when I told her I'm keeping my eyes open for a small round table,  she said she was too!  She restores furniture and she's also in the market for a couple of occasional tables,  and she promised to look for heated curlers for me,  her idea,  since it would make it easier to keep my new style up.

It's odd how doing just one thing for yourself can lift one's spirits....I've always been the one to give and give,  going without stuff when the kids were little,  just like my mom did.  It felt good to sit and have someone fix my hair.

I'd counted the times in my life that I've had a permanent in my hair,  and not including the onetime when I was a teenager,  I've had two other perms....and I've never had my nails done,  nor a facial or makeup.  This hairdresser wants to do my eyebrows,  she thinks they're a great shape,  just wants to trim them a little and maybe do some eyebrow pencil too.

It really isn't about trying to impress others,  or be attractive to men,  it's about taking care of one's appearance and giving to oneself the way one gives to others.

We got into a wonderful discussion about self-esteem,  not beating up on ourselves,  and how easy it is to tell ourselves lies,  for example:  how often do we tell ourselves that we're dumb because we forgot to do something?  or tell ourselves that we're clumsy when we spill something? Giving oneself positive talk actually helps a person to become physically healthier,  that potential is there if we just use it.

So I look forward to tomorrow,  all the while knowing that it may never get here for me so I will love this very moment,  for that's all we truly have.

I had a perm or two in my early 30's and I looked awful. My hair has lots of body but perms were in so I decided to try it. Well I didn't know but I blowdried my first perm and you should have seen my afro. I had no idea.

So now I stay away from perms. I really don't need them anyhow and when I look back at those pictures of me I shudder. What was I thinking?

I try to stay positive as much as possible. We know the world wants to drag us down and this can be very hard to try and stay positive in a negative society. I always said that I raised my kids to impact the culture not to be influenced by it. It's good advice to heed for ourselves as well. While the world wants to or tends to go towards the negative, we can choose to stay positive.

Get your eyebrows waxed. It makes such a difference even if you're eyebrows are not in bad shape to begin with.

Perms are...well...not good on everyone. I had one back when my middle child was about a year old and I liked it then but I don't think it's a good idea for me now...plus it takes so much time.

It does feel nice to take care of yourself though.

Pool is about angles.  Women may have them, but men are the experts on them.

Mine aren't in bad shape,  however she thinks waxing them would help.  I have NO clue what that involves...

If I was half my age I wouldn't get a perm either,  however now my hair is too fine and limp so it does make it look better.

Ya,    taking care of myself feels great and also a little strange!

Very wise,  very insightful too.  My son is a positive person,  doesn't complain,  makes the best of situations,  quite a neat guy   I'm trying to take lessons from him.
